In Mexico and Guatemala, this necklace would be called a chachal. Our take is embellished with coral beads (some antique), real shells and cultural relics from Nepal, Brazil and India. The gold bronze focal pendant was designed in studio by Lisa to represent love and light.
Chachales are traditional necklaces from Central and South America, associated with various indigenous cultures. In Guatemala for example, they were traditionally worn by elite Mayan women and made from a combination of beads, coins, and other decorative elements exhibiting social status and wealth. Their vibrant colors and intricate designs, reflect the rich cultural heritage of the regions they come from.
Coral is an auspicious stone - or so the Buddhists would have you believe. Coral represents diplomacy, harmony and inner peace. It quiets the emotions and the mind. Neither stone nor plant, it is created biologically (ours is farmed) through the calcium of tiny critters in the ocean. Coral is considered sacred for its protective properties that deflect negative energy and promote enlightenment and compassion.
