Chachal

Chachal means necklace in Quiché, the original native language to the indigenous Mayan from the central highlands in Guatemala. Chachales are a blend of ancient native elements and the influence of the European conquerors. The elite Maya wore coral as a symbol of status and for protection; when the Spaniards arrived, the Mayans and Aztecs began adding silver coins and relics to their chachales. Today these time worn relics are very rare and coveted and reveal stories from one lifetime to another.
